# Load ECB press-release RSS into pandas and Parquet

Source entry: https://signal-lab-jet.vercel.app/datasets/ecb-rss
Provider: https://www.ecb.europa.eu/home/html/rss.en.html
Checked against the provider's documentation: 2026-10-30

## Access
- No account or key. The RSS XML is a public file.

## Request
```bash
curl 'https://www.ecb.europa.eu/rss/press.html'
```

## Format
RSS 2.0 XML. Press items include title, link, category, description and an RFC 822 pubDate.

## Load into pandas and Parquet
Needs Python 3 with requests, pandas and pyarrow.
```python
"""ECB press-release RSS -> pandas -> Parquet. No key."""
import xml.etree.ElementTree as ET
import requests
import pandas as pd
URL = "https://www.ecb.europa.eu/rss/press.html"
r = requests.get(URL, timeout=30)
r.raise_for_status()
root = ET.fromstring(r.content)
rows = []
for item in root.findall("./channel/item"):
    rows.append({name: item.findtext(name) for name in ("title", "link", "category", "pubDate")})
df = pd.DataFrame(rows)
df["pubDate"] = pd.to_datetime(df["pubDate"], utc=True)
df.to_parquet("ecb_press.parquet", index=False)
print(len(df), "items", df["pubDate"].min().isoformat(), "to", df["pubDate"].max().isoformat())
```
Run by us on 2026-10-30 (python 3.13.5 | pandas 3.1.0 | pyarrow 26.0.0 | requests 2.34.2). Result: 15 items 2026-10-19T06:00:00+00:00 to 2026-10-30T14:00:00+00:00

## Limits
- Rate limit: Not stated.
- Feed retention and item count are not stated; observed 2026-10-30: the press feed contained 15 items.

## Quirks
- Parse pubDate with utc=True; the source timestamp includes an offset.
- Archive items for history because the feed is a rolling list.
- The RSS page also lists speeches, interviews, publications and exchange-rate feeds.

## Terms and attribution
- Reproduce ECB information accurately and cite the ECB.
- State modifications. If the information is put in a document that is sold, notify buyers that it is available free on the ECB site.
- Named-author papers have a separate prior-written-permission rule.
- Terms page: https://www.ecb.europa.eu/services/disclaimer/html/index.en.html
